So how does a New Jersey resident become a party DJ? Ahh, not so fast, aspiring disc spinner. There’s a lot to it and it’s all about the New Jersey DJ as entertainer.

There are no diplomas or qualifications and no graduation ceremony. However, the time arrives where professionals are called upon to demonstrate their DJ skills and often this will be in front of hundreds of people at their early gigs. Entertaining such a large number of people can be a very daunting and nerve racking task.

In New Jersey It’s Not just Music and Flashing Lights

Party DJing is different to club or radio DJing. Just spending a fortune on the very latest equipment and latest chart music doesn’t make for a successful DJ or get the DJ rebooked. Being a DJ is also about being an entertainer, rather then just being a jukebox surrounded by lots of nice lights. The DJ also plays a lot of music genres and is knowledgeable about all types of music.

A successful DJ is one who plays to his or her audience, who can break the ice at difficult functions and who isn’t out to satisfy their own egos. Most DJs learn to “read” the audience, and are frequently watching the dance floor to gauge what music will work next. At events such as Weddings, the audience may take some time to get onto the dance floor and this is where microphone work is important in order to break the ice, make the audience feel welcome and encourage them onto the dance floor.

Professional DJ companies in New Jersey know that some people are simply not be cut out to be a DJ. Others may pick up the skills in a few months, others may take a year or longer. There is no hard or fast rule to learning the basics. The best, and often the most successful route for aspiring DJs is by helping another DJs on weekends.

What else is needed?

Commitment, dedication and enthusiasm are a must. As is patience and a good sense of humor. By definition, most DJs work the weekends.
